As things warm up (finally!!), Volton bikes are starting to roll out. In fact, we sold our spring fleet of Tracker and, at this time, we are down to the last A Trail in stock. The models are on “backorder” until our summer fleet is ready to pack and ship.
Until then, we have a great deal on our Alation 500 and ST500 to get you moving to school and work. And if you are looking to take the scenic route, be confident your Alation is ready to rip your favorite single track.
Here’s a picture of an A-Trail Max eMTB heading out to Fort Collins, Colorado for some side-country trail exploration.

We had a fun day on the lakefront trail here in Chicago. Maura, Lauren, Joe from Volton, and Mike, from Enriquez Media, piloted the drone to take footage and photos of the Alation, Alation ST and Stow.
The weather was perfect and the scenery cannot be beat. The footage is posted on our facebook page at facebook.com/volton. Here are a few select shots.
Watch out for Josh rolling on his Alation 500 around Chicago and Lake Geneva Wisconsin.
He was leaning on a black frame but he came to his senses and realized he couldn’t resist his love for gray.
Josh was shopping electric bikes for a few months before deciding a Volton was the best ebike for the best price.

With several inches of snow on the ground for a couple weeks, we had an itch to get out and ride one of our newest ebikes in snow. With a free day to get out and ride and a decent day to boot, I saddled up. All Volton bikes are fun to ride… but powerful dual suspension ebikes are a blast to ride.
Riding Volton Electric Bicycles in Snow
The A-Trail, with its 3 inch wide tires and solid wheel set, aptly took the snow by storm. All trees and branches, hidden by the snow, were quickly absorbed by the Recon and Monarch suspension. The power of the 750w Ultra motor was able to climb steep hill sides with ease and the Chronicle tires held on through turns and decents. What a ride!
As a flood of uninspired ebikes featuring dual suspension with weak linkage and off the bottom shelf frame geometry are hawked online, I am proud that Volton continues to offer unique and purpose built ebike builds up to the challenge of what a eMTB should be.
How to Get your very own A-Trail
We did a quick run of our eMTB A-Trail and they quickly sold out. If you’re around Chicago looking to test ride and see the performance and finer details of a Volton, please call and plan a ride. We plan on shipping the A-Trail eMTB in 350w and 750 soon.

Shot a quick video of the Volton A Trail eMTB with 750w Bafang Ultra motor.
Here is a full detail on the choice component selection and beautiful, purpose built frame.
Looking forward to getting some nice shots of this bike outside where it belongs.
Enjoy the ride!
The A-Trail with Ultra eBike Motor is Finally Coming Together.
Well the time is here and the first batch of frames are ready to rock and roll. Making this frame was a test in patience as it took about 2.5x longer than we planned….The ride was great on version 1 and 1.5 but even better on version2! The time to refine was worth it.
The A Trail eMTB is made to explore any section of trail with confidence. The A-Trail motor’s 350w or 750w nominal watts demand proper components of which we carefully selected.
The 350w Max motor kicks out a smooth and robust level of power but the Ultra ebike motor is a beast! Both motors are torque activated for smooth power output, and responsive rider control under foot.
Better parts, better performance, better prices.
Resist the allure of second-rate, off-the-shelf frame designs featuring the Ultra motor.
Volton strives to offer a finely tuned machine, no matter which Volton model you decide to ride. The A-Trail demands parts to stand up to the power of the motor system and rigors of trail riding, and a quality build from the tires up is what you’ll get.
No bottom shelf or commodity bike parts that you’ll find on the lower cost ebike brands are fitted on this machine – sealed oversized hubs with 12 and 15mm axles, 35mm rims from Alex Rims, big hydraulic brakes from Tektro, Rockshox Recon and Monarch suspension kit and steering components from Truvativ.
The 750w ships as a class 2/3 – featuring a throttle* and torque sensing pedal assist – we will also be fitting the frame in a 350w class 3 version which will comply with a growing number of local pedal assist trail access guidelines. Same great design and parts in a road, parks, and trail friendly package at a more affordable price.
When you want to ride on, ride Volton
*-Throttle is removable and will not effect the functions of the Ultra torque sensing pedal assist system.
**- ebike access is regulated at the federal, state and local level. It is important to know your local laws and rules of the road when riding your ebike – refer to your local vehicle laws for more information on what and where you can ride. For more information regarding current and future legislation visit People for Bikes.
NOTE FOR ELECTRIC MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDERS: State vehicle codes do not apply to electric mountain bike access on motorized and non-motorized trails typically used for hiking, biking, and other singletrack or doubletrack trail experiences. eMTB access on singletrack is different than access to paved and soft surface bike lanes and bike paths; eMTBs are not allowed everywhere traditional mountain bikes are; and on federal, state, county and local trails, eMTB access varies significantly. Always consult with your local land manager for access questions.
The new Illinois ebike law will define a statewide mandate for clearly labeling the classification of all pedal assist bicycles operated in the state of Illinois that are purchased after January 1 2018.
If you are a Illinois ebike commuter or trail rider, the law asks to define the class of your electric bicycle for road and trail enforcement.
This law contains language that is now becoming common across the nation as interest and ridership of electric pedal assist bicycles grows.
The full language of the law can be found at
The summarized amendment to Section 5 of the Illinois Vehicle Code state that ebikes that are operated on Illinois roads and trails will need to show a label stating motor wattage, assist classification, and top assist speed. The label will need to be in Arial 9pt type affixed to the frame in visible location.
It should be noted that ebike access (under 750w) has been specifically granted to be classified as a bicycle.“A person may operate a low-speed electric bicycle upon any highway, street, or roadway authorized for use by bicycles, including, but not limited to, bicycle lanes.”
The new law, however, leaves the door open for municipalities throughout the state to restrict their use in some places where traditional bicycles are allowed. The law goes into effect on January 1, 2018.
Cheers and happy riding!
At the end of the year, things get busy. Working, building, trying to order parts that no one has on hand, sending stuff to paint, working at some attempt to streamline the manufacturing process…delivering bikes, wondering where those parts are, and finally getting the frames back from paint with nothing to put on em.
So as we get ready to release our new 27.5×3″ dual-suspension eMTB, the A-Trail, we will sit and wait until suspension and batteries get delivered. We are excited to ride this new machine and it will look and feel great.
